The City of Portland says the Oasis Day Center, operated by nonprofit Urban Alchemy, serves about 230 people on a typical day. The center offers a place where people can get a meal and shower, according to the city.

The city’s account follows Michelle, who it says lived in her car for three years before getting clean in May 2024. She now works as a care coordinator at Oasis. The city says she cared for Cayden for 18 months before an Oregon adoption committee chose in June to place him with the family that had adopted his sibling.
