The City of Portland says its annual Portland Aerial Tram evacuation exercise will run Sunday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. At the tram tower between South Macadam and South Moody Avenues, four Doppelmayr employees acting as passengers will be lowered about 170 feet to the base with ropes and harnesses.
The city says the drill will not require road or travel-lane closures on city streets or highways, and the Hooley Pedestrian Bridge over I-5 will stay open to people walking and biking. Because the tram is closed on Sundays, the exercise will not disrupt regular service, the city says.
