A school-bus pickup in Battle Ground ended with an injured pupil and a traffic citation on Monday, October 12. The Clark County Sheriff's Office described the elementary student's injuries as minor and said the motorist had violated the requirement to stop for the bus.

What investigators established

The child was on the roadway, heading toward the waiting bus, when a sedan came from the other direction. Investigators said the car reduced its speed but kept moving. Its right front corner made contact with the pupil, knocking the child down.

The sheriff's account places the response at about 8:51 a.m. on NE Allworth Road, around the 19300 block. After the impact, the motorist brought the car to an immediate stop and assisted investigators.

What the release does not establish

The release identifies neither person involved. It gives no exact age for the student, no age or gender for the motorist, and no information about hospitalization. It also says nothing about impairment testing or an arrest and announces no charges beyond the bus-passing citation. Those omissions do not establish whether testing or other measures took place.

The reminder for motorists

Alongside the incident report, the office warned that disregarding a required stop for a school bus can carry a penalty above $400. Its message to motorists was to reduce speed and pay close attention wherever children are boarding or leaving buses. The release does not specify the amount of this driver's citation.
