Election night report for November 3, 2026. All times are Pacific.
U.S. Senate
The Associated Press called control of the next U.S. Senate for Democrats. The party picked up Republican-held seats in Texas, Kansas and South Carolina. In Texas, James Talarico defeated Ken Paxton. In Kansas, Adam Hamilton defeated Roger Marshall.
The Senate majority decides who chairs committees and directs the chamber’s consideration of presidential appointments, including federal judges and Cabinet officials. Control of the House is decided separately. AP reported that Democrats had flipped several House districts but had yet to call the House majority in its election-night coverage.
Oregon governor
OPB reported that incumbent Democrat Tina Kotek led Republican challenger Christine Drazan in the first returns. The two also faced each other in 2022, when Kotek won. Pacific Green Party candidate Brett Smith was also on this year’s ballot. The margin can change as counties report more ballots.
Six seats on Portland City Council
In the early ranked-choice count, incumbent councilors Steve Novick, Tiffany Koyama Lane and Angelita Morillo led in District 3. In District 4, the early leaders were Olivia Clark, Eric Zimmerman and Mitch Green. Each district elects three councilors. Shannon Singleton held an early lead in the separate race for Multnomah County chair.
Portland’s Measure 26-267
About 67% of the votes tallied on the measure were against it in the 8 p.m. update, according to Axios Portland. The proposal would let residents suggest projects and vote on how to spend 2% of the city’s discretionary budget.
The local returns are preliminary. Multnomah County publishes additional reports as ballots are processed.
