The investigation into Flydubai Flight 1073 has expanded to New Zealand, where police are reviewing records connected to the co-pilot accused of attacking the aircraft’s captain during last week’s flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv.

New Zealand police said the co-pilot completed part of his flight training in the country in 2018 and 2019. Authorities in Australia are also examining his links there, while the United Arab Emirates is leading the investigation into what happened aboard the aircraft.

Flydubai has confirmed that Flight FZ1073 experienced an incident while en route on September 30 and landed safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia. The airline said all passengers were safe and accounted for.

Reporting since the incident has described a violent cockpit confrontation and dramatic altitude changes before control of the aircraft was restored.

Investigators have not yet publicly established a final motive, and several details remain under investigation.
