Multnomah County says its commissioners unanimously approved a resolution adopting a fleet decarbonization strategy on Oct. 29. The plan provides for replacing the organization’s gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles with electric vehicles by 2050. The County also reports two interim goals: cut fleet greenhouse gas emissions 50% from 2007 levels by 2035 and 75% by 2040.
The County says electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hybrids account for about 10% of its fleet today. Its stated next steps are to establish a Fleet Decarbonization Task Force and move forward with an “EV First” rule through its administrative process.
