Oregon representatives Willy Chotzen and Alek Skarlatos say they will introduce legislation in January to ban AI-powered automated license plate reader cameras statewide. The legislative session begins that month.

The proposal comes as the scale of the technology remains unclear: a community mapping project lists at least 576 Flock Safety cameras and automated plate readers in Oregon, but the exact total is unknown.

Woodburn said in June that it had stopped using Flock and removed the cameras after an internal audit found that federal immigration enforcement agencies had accessed the city’s surveillance data.
