The Guardian reported on Oct. 8 that Britain plans to call its East Jerusalem consulate general building a UK mission, with seven diplomats staying on site. The publication says the office handles consular matters for Palestinians in East Jerusalem, across the West Bank and in Gaza. WE PNW has not independently verified these findings.

The Guardian says Israel ordered the British office to shut on Thursday. Israel’s foreign minister, Gideon Sa’ar, said the order had been carried out and characterized the consulate as closed, according to the newspaper. It also reported that Ed Miliband ruled out British reciprocal steps against Israel during ongoing talks. WE PNW has not independently verified these findings.
