Google has signed one of the largest corporate power agreements in the U.S. as technology companies race to secure electricity for rapidly growing data-center demand.

The agreement with Constellation Energy covers 3,590 megawatts of electricity.

About 890 megawatts are expected to come from additional nuclear capacity created through upgrades at existing reactors in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Constellation says it plans to invest more than $4.3 billion in the upgrades.

A separate 15-year agreement covers another 2,700 megawatts on the PJM Interconnection grid.

The deal comes as artificial-intelligence infrastructure increases electricity demand across the United States and puts new pressure on utilities, regulators and power markets.

Google says the agreements are intended to help meet its growing electricity needs while supporting new generation and grid reliability.
