PORTLAND, Ore. — November 4, 2026. U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley won reelection in Oregon. His principal challenger was Republican state Sen. David Brock Smith.
An early November 4 tally reported by Oregon Public Broadcasting put Merkley at about 56.8% and Smith at 40.4%, with roughly 74% of the expected vote counted.
Merkley has represented Oregon in the Senate since 2009. Senators vote on federal legislation and spending and consider nominees for senior government offices. House members face election every two years, while senators serve six-year terms.
Oregon voters also reelected Gov. Tina Kotek, who defeated Republican Christine Drazan for a second term. The governorship and Merkley’s Senate seat will remain with Democrats. Counting continues, and final totals will be established when results are certified.
